I’m so excited to share Adela’s and Tomislav’s Bangalore wedding with you today. This couple is very special to me as I loved helping them make their 3-day celebration of mehndi, sangeet and wedding reception so special. It’s one of my favorite set-ups ever and also one of the last wedding celebrations at the Sommer house venue!
Over to the bride now…
1. How the groom & bride met:
We met in India while we were both on vacation. Adela was visiting her family and Tomislav was visiting friends.
2. Where both of you are from:
Adela is from India but now resides in the USA. Tomislav’s family is from Croatia but they now live in the USA.
3. The kind of wedding you were looking for:
We wanted something that would be Indian but modern and fun. Since we come from diverse backgrounds, we really wanted something that would be appreciated by both sides of the families. Reena did that just that and the decor was amazing! Not to mention, she handled the logistics perfectly and literally did not go to sleep until everything was taken care of!
4. No.of guests:
200 (Sangeet) and 500 (Reception)
5. A few lines about yourselves:
We are both energetic, outdoorsy and fun loving. We love to travel and be on the road but also value down time with friends and family.
6. The Planning process:
The planning really only started 6 months prior to the wedding date. We were living in the US and the wedding was being planned in Bangalore so our family in India helped us out a lot. Seeing that it was going to be a large undertaking, my step-mom found Reena from The Wedding Spell to help us out, and I’m so thankful that she did. Having Reena really brought all the ideas together and she made our vision into a reality. We wanted decor that would be bright and fun, but still classy. All of her setups were impressive and she definitely knew how to transform a space, no matter the obstacles. She brought the “wow” factor and didn’t disappoint. Her attention to detail was perfect, planning was meticulous and vendor coordination was exceptional. (Anyone from India knows how challenging it can be to work with various vendors but Reena made it all look seamless).
7. What did you feel when you saw the decor?
We felt very special that all of these beautiful, vibrant decorations were being assembled for us. The colors were bright, fun, and transformed the scene from a generic event to a momentous occasion.
8. Any advice for couples who are getting married.
Have an open-minded conversation between the two of you about what you value and what is important to you, and make those broad strokes decisions first. Then, figure out who would be the people to help you with making this possible (family, friends, professional help). Coordinate people, be specific about what you want, and be kind to these people – they are helping you! Also, be flexible with how things turn out and decisions you make along the process, realizing that details and events won’t look or be exactly as you may have envisioned. Additionally, your parents have probably been excited about your wedding since you were born – allow them to have aspects the way they want them if it is important to them. Try to make things a win-win as much as possible because your family will likely have a good amount of input.
Wedding dress & Accessories – The dress shopping was fairly easy and I got it all done in one day! We got it all in Bangalore by checking out the main saree shops and relied on antique family jewelry for the accessories. It was all surprisingly simple, but then again, I didn’t want anything over the top so all of this was just perfect for me.
